On the 23rd of October, Bochra, Diana, and Chiara had the opportunity to represent A²WiM at the kick-off event for the newly created role of Vice Dean for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at the University of Vienna's Faculty of Mathematics. The role, recently taken up by Sara Merino-Aceituno, marks an important step forward, and we were excited to be part of this event.
The afternoon was designed to bring people together in a relaxed and engaging setting, with drinks and snacks, while introducing a variety of new initiatives aimed at supporting students and building stronger connections within the faculty. These initiatives included new training programs, resources, community-building efforts, and educational tools for incoming students.
In addition to these new projects, several ongoing initiatives that are already making a meaningful impact in the mathematics community were also highlighted. These included "AIMS and the Vienna African Mathematics Scholarships", the "Mathematik macht Freu(n)de" project, and A²WiM. In particular, we had the opportunity to talk about our own work, exploring how our initiatives are making a difference for women and gender minorities in mathematics, and discussing potential opportunities for future collaboration.
